Etiquette Lesson

When I was in Kolej Matrikulasi Johor, we had to take a subject called 'Dinamika Kemahiran' for one semester, that has no major exam for it. What we learned in this minor subject were etiquettes. Everything about etiquettes and lots of role play. We were taught how to greet and shake hands with people around during a social dinner, like whether should a guy held out his hand first or waiting for the girl does it first. Besides that, we also learned the fine dining etiquette and also usual makan-makan etiquette.

Our only exam was having a "Dinner Night", where we dressed nicely and when the dinner is served, teachers are around our table seeing how we scoop the soup, portion of rice in a spoon and how we placed the cutlery while stopping or finishing our food. During my time, they served us nasi beriyani. Teacher's observation around my group's table lasted for only 10 minutes.

That 10 minutes, I only eat the rice and drinking the orange juice, without touching the super hard chicken. Meh, sekali I cucuk the chicken fly away - FAILED how?

Okay, cutting the crap away. This is one thing that we discussed during one of the Dinamika Kemahiran class. It is about the right way of entering and exiting a car!

Teacher: Macam mana korang nak masuk dalam kereta? Kaki dulu ke kepala ke?

Us: Kaki dulu! *confident answer*
(Some even try to imagine the situation, act it out on their own world)

Teacher: Yeke? Itu adalah cara yang salah!

Us: Eh, biasanya masuk kaki dulu... *still confident with own answer*

Teacher: Ok, cara yang betul, kita patut masukkan punggung dahulu. Dah duduk, baru perlahan-lahan masukkan kaki...

Us: OOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH!

Teacher: Macam mana pula dengan keluar dari kereta? Lepas buka pintu, nak macam mana?

Us: PUNGGUNG DULU!!! *This answer lagi super confident*

Even the teacher did the *smack head* act after we answered that..

I don't think I need to tell how, but you can try by exiting the car with your butt first...!

Having buddy line in university is something out of the stacks of medical book, something really unique that bring seniors and juniors from different years together. Lined from 5th year down to 1st year, or some of the time we even meet up from the senior that had work as doctor to the very young freshmen in the course..

Choosing a very informal picture because this relationship with each other does not only stick academically, even do we did this line to help each other in studies. But, we still able to sit down, have a drink and have fun! Spot the Jenga on the table!

This thing started with myself feeling really tired of studying already. Then, I went blog walking and stopped by my cousin's blog. So, when I was reading her latest post regarding Breaking Dawn, the first sentence really caught my attention.

How many times do we get a 3-day weekend break in a year, this is a great chance to get myself pump up with more time and chase everything my lecturers taught throughout the week. We had lecture marathon on Tuesday and some lectures throughout the week, very self-conscious.

In life, there is this one point we called self-indulge, it is both the needs for a normal human being as well as the denial of having a lot to study

So, we spent some cousins quality time together in Sunway Pyramid :)

When we were there, every time we will ask each other

"Where should we go now?"

No plan at all, but we spent 7 random hours there suddenly with lots of plan

First, we headed to Watson, then Guardian, then back to Watson again

Bought ourselves Maybelline BB Mousse, both of the store sold it for the same price

Since we had Watson Membership Card, we went to get it in Watson

Wanted to try out pedicure due to my tak-boleh-tengok-punya toe nails, we went to survey all the nail arts service shop around

We found out that Nail Artz had the cheapest service and made an appointment at 4pm

It was only 2pm at that moment

So, we headed to Fullhouse to grab our lunch

Tyng had basic manicure done, while I had French pedicure

First, I had my leg soaked inside the water mixed with peppermint salt

While my foot enjoying the jacuzzi, she on the massage chair. Fuhlamak, that was like the best time of my life. And the back and head massage last for 20 minutes :)

Then my foot was scrubbed, rinsed and dried by towel

She then use a small device to clear off excess skin at my heels and under the toes

Lotion was then applied around my foot and toe nails

Cuticle removal, nail shaping and buffering

And here comes the French pedicure

Along the session, I was half watching what she did and half playing Sudoku on my phone

Tyng had her nail polish drying up

I'm beside her with this device under the table drying my nail polish as well

I told her that, doing pedicure can have more body movement than manicure

And she feels like punching me after I said that

For Rums Raisins, after a while I feel it is too sweet for me plus with the raisins, it is getting sweeter and sweeter. It will be just nice for 1 scoop

After that I went to buy dried seaweed in Jusco to bring it back to my hostel so that I can cook during the weekday. Skipped.

We were thinking to have dinner with my uncle and cousins. But they were already eating when we called them. So, we had to go search for our own dinner.

Then it gave us a shot of awake-ness because this is totally TOO BIG

Now, we have trouble how to chew the whole thing

I had to take a piece of tissue to cover myself struggling to chew on that sushi

We felt so silly at that time because by looking at it, the size is obviously way bigger

How can we not see them!

After that, hallelujah, we are home

And I went straight to the bed to take a shop nap

Oh ya, now Sunway Pyramid has an outlet of Nature Republic!

They had just pick the right place to gain back their customer (me me me!)

My Happiest Moment

My happiest moment will be having A LOT A LOT A LOT of photos scattered on the bed and spending time away from the hectic day to flip all of them with my family and had a good laugh about those moment

Recalling those years back when my family still celebrates both of me and my brother's birthday every year. My parents will never fail to grab a roll of film for camera. There are 2 albums in the picture above that had a page to page progress of our age and life. 1 album for my brother and 1 for myself, collection done by my parents. Every birthday, they will pick the nicest solo picture of us as the birthday girl and boy to take picture with the cake that had ordered for us. This annual picture collection stopped when we reached 10 years old.

The last camera we had was the one seen in the picture.

I couldn' remember went we bought that and it has been ages the camera was no longer used.

Back then, camera with 6 megapixel sounds really mega to everyone. Digital camera gives even more credit because there is no longer the use of films.

As years passed by, my parents had started to complain about seeing pictures taken with mobile phone isn't clear for their vision and the screen is too small for them. Even showing pictures for them in the laptop made them search for their spectacles everywhere. They even complained that a printed photo taken by mobile phone didn't look as good the one taken by camera. Even with all the complaints, they still love to keep printed photos taken by camera. None of us were home with them most of the days in a year, high definition printed photos meant a lot to them when they miss us.

In this era of all-in-one mobile phone, I had turn myself camera-less for years. Then only I realized how happy it can be when you can pile up lots and lots of photos on the bed and flipping through them one by one with my family. The heavenly moment when we travelled back in time again once we started to recall the events in the picture.

I may not have memory of my 1-year old birthday celebration with my family. But with those pictures taken because of the existence of camera together with the story from my parents of the event, I honestly can picture the celebration and my innocent self!

A new camera after so many years may start a new happy memory journey for me and my family with no more complaints :)

Mentari Beauty and Spa

Recently MilkADeal had a deal which was RM39 instead of a RM249 for Brightening Hydro Facial Spa + Eye Treatment + Volcano Stone Back Massage + Manicure at Mentari Beauty and Spa located in Pandan Indah.

In search of the spa

Told Tyng's dad the address of the place. Turn out that all these spa that we had been going located in those place that had number at the street name like 6A, 6B. We had to turned a few rounds before knowing where is A and giving a good guess where B should be.

Found!

This place is pretty good even though it is just part of the old shop lots around the area there. The decoration is really nice, seriously much much better than Aura Wellness that Tyng and I went few weeks ago!

Consultation

Firstly, we were greeted and was brought slippers and hot ginger tea. They are all really friendly. A details form was filled and the lady break the ice, ask us some questions regarding our concern of our skin. It was awkward because both of us giving the same answer, which is blackhead. Then, when she asked us what products we were using currently and we hit the same answer again. After that only the lady asked whether we are friends or related LOL XD

Body massage + Volcano Stone Massage

We were given a room for 2. As usual, when I took of my spectacles, everything looks so dreamy to me. We had a really soothing body massage. I really love this a lot! The girl who pamper me was real friendly. We chatted while she was massaging my back. I like the pressure she gave during the massage, not too hard and not too soft, just nice for a small body frame like me. Then she came with 2 volcano stones wrapped with some herbs in a cloth. A brief massage with the REALLY hot stones. After awhile, it was really nice :)

Brightening Hydro Facial

As usual, double face cleansing. A scrub to exfoliate. No extraction for the package, but if we want it, RM20 each. So we go with the package, no pain for this time. Facial massage was really good, but I hope it was longer and more variations in the massage. I still have the best facial massage in Idemisse and also from the facial I went in my hometown. Mask for the end of the facial. The mask done here kinda different from the other facial. This one harden once it dried, not very comfy. After removing the mask by cracking the hard surface piece by piece, a layer of cream was applied.

Eye Treatment

I don't see what so special about this. It was done together with the facial. The only thing I know they did for my eyes was to put a slice of cucumber each on my eyes. That's it. This is really a disappointment.

Manicure

They did this while waiting for the mask to dry up. I couldn't see a thing because of the cucumbers. Basically, they just did filling, shaping and cuticle treatment. No coloring was done. The whole thing was pretty fast. She did help me to cut off the excess skin around my nails and it was painful.

After the session, we had a cup of green tea and the lady ask for our feedbacks. We were so shy and the whole session become so awkward. Not sure to leave or she still want to talk to us. She showed us all the services they have, which is quite a lot. While for the price, I found it too pricey for a place like this.

From the above package that I get, if I come with normal price which is RM249, honestly I don't think this is worth from the session that I had just gone through. But, I shall say the people in there was really friendly! It might not look as good from the outside of the shop, but it is really nice inside!

An Adventure With My Pet

Here's an imaginary adventure I would like to go with my pet, Bean. Basically, at home, all of us called him "dao dao" in cantonese, a direct translation to English, he is Bean. Bean first came to my house on year 2003, counting the years Bean has been with us for 8 years now.

Bean and I have inseparable bond together. But, Bean's purpose at home is only a watching dog for my family. For me, Bean has been a really good accompaniment I ever had after Dumb left. Bean isn't any Husky or Terrier or chihuahua, he is just a stray dog once ago.

Let's get under my pillow and I will tell you what adventure I would like to go with Bean

I just want to turn kiddy & get loose one more time and have a children's adventure

So, once upon a time.....

"Hey Eli, I need you to help me look after my zoo for a moment because I need to go on emergency leave. I know you always love animals. Here's your chance, girl!"

All right, I wouldn't want to tell you who's on the phone but for sure someone really close that owns a ZOO! Wow, in a running to look after the animals in the zoo. Turned to Bean who was eagerly looking at me, I told him that he's going to get lots of friend when he gets there with me and it will be an amazing adventure for us.

This is serious. A zoo!

Once we reached the zoo, there is no visitor at all. But only the workers in the zoo running around. "Miss, our giraffes just get loose from the cage. They were everywhere now!"

I guess that wouldn't be tough, giraffe is tall. The next second, Bean ran towards an unknown direction and starts barking. Bean is chasing the giraffes! All the workers are following Bean and things settled down after that. Phew, lucky Bean was around.

Days after days, I had fun playing with the parrots, cleaning the zebras, feeding giraffes and all the animals there with Bean sticking around with me. Being a pet-lover myself, I am so overwhelmed having animals around. In addition, I get to ride horses around, practicing tricks with the elephants and oh boy, swims around with the seal and dolphin. Yes, every time with Bean around with me in this really fun adventure of taking care of a zoo!

Never did I know maintaining a zoo can be that adventurous. Until one day, Bean came to me with frisbee while I was cleaning the zebras. "Beany, we will play some other day right? These cutie zebras need some good shower. There you go Bean, there are cookies there" Bean left silently.

Until one evening, I came to realize Bean's feeding bowl is full. Bean hasn't been eating the whole day since I last see Bean when I was washing the zebras. Then only I come to realize that we haven't been doing what we usually did everyday.

Every morning, Bean and I will walk around the neighbourhood and he will have his poo business done. Then we will be home to have breakfast and off I go to school. When I was home, Bean usually deep in his sleep or he might be just awake but being lazy. In the evening, after my homework are done, I would spend some time rubbing Bean's back and tummy. Then, we would have frisbee challenge together and I have losing ever since we started the challenge.

Now I have been neglecting Bean's daily routine. He has his poo time in haywire and low level of entertainment. That is why he brought the Frisbee to me! Bean is trying to remind me that we have lost our daily rhythm for such a long time. I ran around the zoo to look for Bean until I found Bean sitting sadly under a bench. Bean looked really sick. Bean has been really jealous these few days for not getting the attention he has been having. Bean wants the adventure in the zoo together with me, not being neglected

Ever since then, Bean and I only go back to the zoo to visit. But I will always remember to have Bean sticking around with me. We no longer want a zoo adventure. Nowadays, we have a new adventure together, a game of hide and seek around the neighbourhood! This has made me realize that how important Bean to me. Losing him for a moment in the adventure leads to major worries to me. If I neglect him again, I do not only lost a great pet but I lost a best friend.

From that zoo adventure, I realized no matter how many animals I have around me, Bean only got me

Sankolok Boutique Cafe @ Sri Petaling

You see, for the first time I heard the name of this boutique cafe called Sankolok, I'm laughing my ass off! For you who spoke a lot of cantonese, you might get why I am laughing. Even if you don't, the word Sankolok doesn't sounds like a cafe at all.

My cousin told me the food there was good. So, we give it a try again for dinner today

We were sort of the first customer there at that time

This is one of my favorite dish

I never had turmeric fish like this before, not that I remember

Well, this does not disappoint me at all

Plus with the rice, this is one really good dish!

Stir Fried Mixed Vege with Oyster Sauce

Well, every meal has to come with a combination of vegetables for the balance of nutrition

All right, no nutrition lesson here

But the taste was all right

The oyster sauce does not cover up the vegetable taste so much

One weird looking Dessert of the Day

It was a combination of chewy string jellies (red & green) and jackfruit slices (yellow)

With lots of ice cubes on top of it

The string jellies had no taste, just come with tinge of jackfruit sweetness

The whole set for 4 pax is RM 68.80 (drinks not included)

We couldn't finish the big bowl of green curry because everyone felt so bloated already

One thing I would like to emphasize here was the service is really good and everyone in there was so friendly. From taking our order, serving us food, clearing our used dishes and the worker even rushed to the door to open the door for us when we leave. Thanks for the great service

Remember the post regarding Charm Making Workshop? Before I kick off to the workshop, we settled down in Puchong an hour earlier for lunch. This post got nothing to do with the workshop, but the energy that keep me hype during the workshop - which is FOOD

My first ever visit to Carbon Brasa

Very chemical-like name

Carbon Brasa is a restaurant of Asian and Western fusion cuisines

A corner shop, inner design like a pub

Yeah, it serves as a pub with alcoholic drinks at night, while a restaurant in the day time

Judging by its ambience, I was surprised with the range of menu they have

They even have my favorite, asam laksa!

Hit me, their asam laksa is so far one of the best I have ever tasted in a restaurant (exclude night market)

Love this asam laksa max max!

With lots of ingredients in there and the taste just hit on what I wanted

Not too sour and the I love the level of the spiciness

Sambal Seafood Rice

I was in awe at the amount of seafood they served

Really really a lot!

It builds up a mountain of seafood that is as high as the rice

Mussels, prawn, squids

And the sambal, the spiciness is just so comfortable (not too gentle & not having sexy lips and I have to drink more than I eat)

(Geez, I can have 2 bowls of asam laksa and keep the change, for 1 plate of this. Well, look at the mountain of seafood, it makes you feel better for the price)

Blog Action Day 2011 - I cook my own dinner

When you're away from home, the comfort zone

When you're not earning

When you're using money from loan & it needs to be return some day

When life is busy

All we wish for is food that can keep us going

From that situation above, not everyday we're able to indulge ourselves with great food

But, with that, I appreciate every single meal I had

Sometimes, we tend to neglect the appreciation of having food

To overcome this, I cook my own meal once awhile

When I cook, I will always remind myself to finish it up

Though Malaysia has lots of local food that is so yummy, an endless list

I'm going to show a dish I could indulge myself without spending a lot

For sure, time will be spent in order to cook this dish but I see it as a time to de-stress myself from the hectic routine I had

I cook this tom yam noodle once in a while for dinner

Half of noodle: RM 0.46

Vegetables: RM 0.60 (RM 1.80 per packet, divide into 3 servings)

Egg: RM 0.42

Enoki mushrooms: RM 0.33 (RM0.99 per packet, divide into 3 servings)

Onions: RM 0.10

Tom Yam paste: RM 0.55 (RM 1.10 per packet for 2 servings)

TOTAL: RM 2.50 (after rounding up)

Cooking skill increased, de-stress successful, save up $$

Hui Fang's convocation

This was way back to 23rd September, where this event I wouldn't want to miss out to place it in my blog for remembrance. It feels like just a blink of an eye, we just had a gathering dinner with Yu Jun for his graduation last year.

This year, it is my grand buddy's graduation!

Congratulations!
(Finally, the hard-earned title of Doctor)

If you aren't very sure what does grand buddy really stands for, there is this system in my uni called "Buddy System". Every time when you're promoted to Year 2 as senior, you're able to pick 1 junior which had just entered Year 1 as your buddy. This system were created initially to guide the freshmen when they first enter uni and the course. Years to years, the chain of choosing your own buddy goes on, it forms a line of buddy from Year 1 to Year 5 until graduation

It is okay if this is confusing, I'm pretty bad at explaining

When I first enter Year 1, she was in Year 3. Time flies.

After the event, we decided to have a dinner together because it takes all of us to have this gathering once a year (which we called it "annual" meeting)

We left KTSN which is located in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa around 6pm and we were stucked in a terrible jam on our way to Cheras. We spent 2 hours + in the car. We reached Cheras Leisure Mall with super flat tummy at 8pm. We had dinner without Hui Fang in Boston as she had a gathering in MV with her friends. But she promised to meet us up around 10pm.

We finally meet up with Hui Fang & we settled down in Gilly cafe

I want to get it all over as soon as possible

But to get rid of these, it needs a lot of sacrifice & courage

My confidence, less than half

It has been easy to see 1/3 of my batch in the posting had done with theirs

But the stories behind were untold

Had been very irresponsible and draggy for the past few days

After knowing my short case will be held only on Thursday

Now it is my turn

The name on top of the list tomorrow

Exactly the first one for the day

The hard-swallowed cocktail of feelings is back

14 months ago, I was shaken for not knowing how short case was done in Internal Medicine

Now, I am shaken because I can imagine the exact situation

Pros, this is no longer the first clinical exam

Cons, they are kids / newborns! (a plus plus in difficulty level)

Can I choose some courses that have no practical exams and those that I can just laze around the lecture hall? *stupid question*

Self-calming:
The exam session will only take 20 minutes of my life, what's the big deal
*after telling self, calmed for a second, the chill is back after that*
(geez, it is about the time of one short drama series, that's long)

A reminder to self - I have come so far in this journey, look at the steps left in front. It is much shorter than those steps that I have gone through. Believe in what I have got

Pearl International Hotel: Sunday Japanese Buffet Brunch

Bought a deal in I Love Discount where I can enjoy this Japanese Buffet Brunch for only RM37.80, compared to the normal Adult price of RM55++ in Pearl International Hotel. The deal can be used from 11 September until November. Since I won't be around KL this coming Sunday, we had it last Sunday :)

Psst, I apologize for poor pictures in this post and I missed out a lot of food in here. Too busy eating and this place is kinda crowded

I was really excited since the night before this brunch, never actually have much chances to experience buffet in my life due to my small tummy that could not stretch any further

The first food I saw was Japanese fried rice, then beef rendang, chicken rendang. Not very interested in those because it is not worth the theme and money

Then turn the corner of food, I saw rows of those container that pau seller use to heat the pau while selling. It strikes me for a moment whether I'm having Japanese buffet or Oriental Chinese buffet. They are chawanmushi and really pau in there! Not interested at the moment, turn to another section

The mussels are really good, I lost count how much I ate

After that, I felt that I can't swallow anymore mussels

While for the raw oyster, I had the first one without the lemon

The aftermath - I'm not taking the second one because it is too raw for me

I prefer salmon sashimi, it was way nicer!

Both of these I'm all right with it as well, squid and octopus have always been favorite

But this is the first time I had so much sashimi at one go

This is worth the money! :D

#11 Tried the combination of Soba and Miso soup

There are 2 pots of soup beside the soba

Qi Tyng and I aren't very sure which is which, we only know one of them was Miso soup

No tag for the other pot of soup

So, we made a decision to try soba and miso soup at the same time, so that our tummy are fit to try other stuff later

After that, I saw another lady scooping the soup from the other pot

Then only I realized that was the original soup for Soba

=.=

Lazy to rearrange them for photography session because I'm busy eating my own food

I prefer the mushroom here than those I had before in other Japanese restaurant

Way to the bottom, there is one prawn, which is larger than what I had before

Just a passerby dish, wallop this small cup fast and head to other food

#14 I am not sure what is this, we called it the Japanese Steamboat

We picked the ingredients we want, the chef will cook for us with Miso Soup

Not worth, just to try out everything there

Mostly are frozen ingredients, nothing special

The mini tart is one of the best dessert I have tasted there

Fruits on top, with cream in the middle, chocolate is at the bottom

The mochi are just normal for me

With red bean, kaya and black sesame fillings

Nothing very special about this

I had my first one when I was in matrikulasi and after that I seldom have this dish

Glad that they didn't mix too much mayonnaise with the potato

This amount of mayonnaise is just nice, love it!

Kelvin Gems: Charm Making Workshop

After being M.I.A so long for not joining and attending most of the event that I was really crazy about, finally I decided to accept the invitation by Elwyn from MilkADeal to attend a Charm Making Workshop, despite having major exams coming up.

Charm bracelet has been always on top of the list while accessories browsing whenever there is a chance of window shopping. Every charms tell a different unique story, other than being really nice to wear one. After all, I have not found one that was near to a story that I want to tell. With that, I am really grateful being able to attend this workshop. Not only I got to personalised my own charm, I get to learn to make them!

All of us were given a chain measured of a girl's average wrist diameter

On the left, the rounded playar is used in small area and to stabilized the ring when opened, as well as to twist a pin into a hook

In the middle, that is the cutter

On the right, the flat playar are use to open the ring and secure it

With the 2 tools above, the big ring on the left and a rod-shaped thing was hooked in

The ring and rod will be the lock for the bracelet

This is the T-pin, were we used to create our own design out of all beads and ornaments given, stack 2 beads together or 1 beads with a butterfly. A good way to reveal your creativity and start a good story for your charm!

I really enjoy this workshop much much that I couldn't explain how much fun it was, especially it was something that I had been eyeing for quite some times. Not only I get to own them now, I get to personalised my own story and charms through all of them. Other than that, I finally get to meet up Elwyn, Benjamin and Kah Mon, and seeing Qian for the first time :D

Open House @ IPHKL

The guys in my group rang us up about the open house while we were still wandering around the ward in Institut Pediatrik Hospital Kuala Lumpur (IPHKL). They only rang us up after they had their first round of lunch pfft.. When we reached the ground floor, the place was totally packed! *people mountain people sea (direct translate from Mandarin)*

What else, the smell of the food and the atmosphere full of people always make the food taste nicer than anything

Searched for clean plate in the stacks and automatically queue to grab anything that looks good. This open house is courtesy of HSBC bank!

While in the ward, the HSBC manager (I think) was giving away stuffs to the patient and parents. All the paediatrics patient got a soft toy (there are Barney, Pooh Bear, Chips & Dales, dinosaurs in variety of species and hippopotamus! *I WANT TOO!*). Inside the bag, there are a huge tin of Munchy's biscuits, boxes of cereal (Honey star, koko krunch, milo ball), drinks and the Mickey Mouse swiss roll.

Guess what the parents get? ANG PAU - RM 10

Ketupat / nasi impit, fried kuey teow, fried noodle, fried chicken

Nasi minyak / beriyani, beef rendang, chicken rendang

That one Mid-Autumn

Mid-autumn this year passed when I was really busy preparing my patient's case presentation. After hibernating for such a long time in Neonatal Intensive Care Unite (NICU), where I myself wasn't very sure why we were posted there for 2 weeks when we were not allowed to do anything, but one thing - to look at the babies and their case notes only. Well, I enjoy being under the roof of 100% air conditioned building and watching babies hiccuping. (Adorable max max!) Other than that, I lost the skills of clerking the third person regarding paediatrics cases, which that explains why I had a fainting spell while preparing the presentation on mid-autumn night itself because I'm back to medical ward in Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) - a place where we no longer pampered with the cool air and the case notes weren't the main helper anymore.

Last year, I celebrated in Tanjong Karang, Kuala Selangor when I was doing my Public Health posting. Watched Contagion? Yeah, that movies remind me of what I was taught in the posting, the procedures done as the first line.

Year 2001

There was this one event which is still fresh in my memory - the morning of mid-autumn festival year 2001. Yeah, it was a decade ago, where we need a jet rewind for a moment.

It happened during the morning assembly in my primary school when I was in Standard 6. I was assigned to be the prefect of my own class to maintain their discipline throughout the assembly. (During assembly, 2 prefects will be assign to take care of each class. One standing in front and another one at the back. After the assembly, the prefects will bring them back to their respective class and keep on looking after the students until the teacher was there. It is seriously no fun, I tell you) So, I was the one standing at the back of my own class. You know, when your friend is the prefect that look after your class, discipline is really hard to maintain because they weren't scare of you and you will certainly trying to help them without getting caught.

During the long assembly with lots of point by the headmistress, one of my friend wanted to go to the toilet. I told her the Standard 6 toilet was the other way, but she insist to go to the other toilet because it was nearer. She left without waiting for me (Another prefect's job is to accompany the student when she wanted to go to the toilet =.=). Due to the long long speech, students in my class starts talking (seniors what, more daring), where I have to go back and forth (lucky the other fella that stand in front not knowing what's at the back) telling them to be more well-maintained.

After the speech, our discipline teacher started to call out names, those that did not behave well throughout the assembly. The friend that went to the toilet just now was called, those talking in my class were called, I started to feel scared. Initially, she had stop calling names but then she paused for a moment - yes, my name was called last. All of us had to go up the stage in front of hundreds students. We were scolded for being not discipline enough during the assembly and we were not respecting the headmistress.

"Tell me what did the headmistress said just now"

That was what she asked all of us standing on the stage there because we were scolded for not paying attention. My memory wasn't that bad when I was at that young age, but the situation was terrifying. Since a few of my friends who were standing beside me on the stage replied nothing and the teacher was just right in front of a few of us, I list down the points mentioned. Being very angry, she said the points were wrong and asked why didn't I told the student that she went to the wrong toilet and it was unacceptable as a senior. It went on for quite long and some started to tears. It ended by punishing all of us to write 100 times of "Sorry, I will not do it again" to the headmistress. It was fresh in my memory because after the assembly, my class teacher came and told me that I had listed the headmistress' speech points correctly.

Anyway, I admitted by mistake in not doing well enough in maintaining the discipline of my own class, which wasn't easy. But was scolded for giving the right answer wrong, which I really hope this will not happen again to any teachers because they were teaching the students the wrong thing when they were right. That makes a memorable day in my primary school

Basically, I myself aren't very sure about what is the exact definition for a Homestay. As per Wikipedia, it defines as a form of tourism and/or study abroad program that allows the visitor to rent a room from the local family to better learn the local lifestyle as well as to improve their language ability. Well, I pretty guess this is one very classy definition here compared to homestay nowadays. To my understanding, today homestay does not only plays a role as tourism, it plays a role for the local as well especially university students. I come across a Malaysia homestay called iBilik, which provides the convenience not only to those who are interested in searching for a room, as well for those who wanted to rent their room. In my case now, I'm currently categorized as a tenant too, just that I have lack of experience searching for rooms online because it is provided by the university.

On Raya day, my family had a celebration for ourselves to which is an early Grandpa's 88th (89th for the Lunar calendar) birthday celebration. This was suggested earlier by my youngest aunt. Why? Blame the flood early this year, we were not able to have a complete family gathering during Chinese New Year. Since my youngest cousin, Su-Lynn had a day off from her school in Singpore, finally we reunite in Segamat!

Not only the family reunite, we have MacBook reunion as well, a total of 6 of them. Most are tagged with Pro and some aren't Pro or Air. New member of the family of Apple products, youngest uncle got himself a new iPad 2!

Putting the electronic family aside, for the first time in such a complete gathering, we have a new member. Alex brought his girlfriend along, Linda. Due to that, we have to re-plan placement of room to the new arrangement, which I called it "Genderist". Guys in one room, girls in one.

There are 4 bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs.

Grandpa & grandma took the one downstairs.

One room for my parents, another one for my eldest aunt.

Both of my uncles (Qi Tyng's dad & Alex's dad), my brother & Alex placed in a smaller room

While me, Qi Tyng, Qi Ern, Qi Ying, Linda & aunt (Alex's mom) conquered the one with attached toilet!

Went there by bus, getting to know new friends along the journey

Reached the camp site & the rain stopped

Here's a recommended place for you to dine in comfortably, nice view and good food

It is all about the quality!

The ambience of the shop, very comfortable

What brought me here?

Very simple, a few reasons.

#1 We bought vouchers from a deal that worth so much the set

RM 8.80 for a Set of Main Course + Honey Lemon + Creme Brulee (NP: RM15) + RM3 voucher for the next visit

#2 I never been to Syopz yet, never get so near to Taylor's Lakeside Campus yet

#3 Wanted to try out vegetarian dishes in shop like this (I only ate in vegetarian economy rice stall before)

#4 Get to chill with my cousins and loved ones

My main course: Mushroom Spaghetti with Carbonara Sauce

Give it a try, the sauce is so so so awesome!

The portion is just nice, it was like tailor-made for the size of my hungry tummy

Qi Tyng's Risotto

Hmm, due to lack of function in my grey matter for the moment, I don't remember the full name of this food. It is a risotto anyway.

The comment from the "eater", she loves it so much that she finally found one of the nicest risotto she had tried before. I'm not very into risotto yet, will learn more about this

Da 2 guys ordered the same dish (same, not sharing >.<), this is a vegetarian chicken chop with black pepper sauce

There are actually 2 pieces of so-called "chicken but not chicken" chop

Love the thick black pepper sauce, smell so good!

I believe nowadays there were quite a number of people who converted to become part time or full time vegetarian not really due to religion. My current roommate just convert herself to become a vegetarian for a good cause - for a better Earth, to save it from global warming. Nowadays, Tzu Chi Foundation has comes up with V generation, which is to spread the knowledge about eating less meat that can help reducing the amount of carbon dioxide towards the Earth, eventually not to worsen global warming

I admit myself not a very committed person in this case, but that does not change my view in the quality and how vegetarian food can be good as well. I pretty guess this is the aim of The V here. Anyway, I still love meat! (Sorry, Mother Earth)

It is all homemade that I hardly even see one out of this shop

We had the chance to taste a few here, such as Horlick, Guinness etc

Other than that, there are choices of Bandung (the striking pink one), Strawberry Cream Cheese, Peanuts Butter

My favorite of all - Guinness Ice-Cream!

No doubt, will be back here again for other dishes, the coffee and definitely the ice-cream

Steamboat, one loyal dish that stays forever in my favorite list

But, most good steamboat places offer food at quite expensive prices. However there are still a lot that are quite reasonable. The problem is to look for the really good one that worth my tummy

Decided to try the new shop in Sri Petaling called Shapa Shapa Shabu
(This is a non-halal)

They offered 3 types of set in the menu that comes with drinks and dessert, that is not necessary ice-cream as stated in the menu. Below the set price, they even total up the price after taxes. For the noodle, there are choices of yee mee, spinach noodle or mee hoon, as well as 3 types of soup to choose from. Can be seen from the above menu

This is pretty disappointing. Take a look at the different color of the green tea in each glass, which is getting lighter in color and tasteless. Note the differences in the size of the glass as well. What we did was to mix the green tea ourselves to balance out the taste and color for each cup

Next, they served the soup of our choice. What else other than tom yam! Each of us have their own pot of soup and we can control the heat level, which is attached to the table. I prefer it to be more spicy and less sour. Overall, the soup is acceptable

Spinach noodle and yee mee

For those who prefer to eat more and worth the same amount of money paid, pick yee mee. It is so much bigger in portion compared to spinach noodle. But, in the view of the taste, both are good

The egg has special use in the Shapa Shapa way

There is a special bowl only for the egg

Dipped the slice of pork belly into the egg

Make sure the pork belly was covered by the egg, and then put it into the soup. I tell you, this is super DELICIOUS!! The pork belly is the only extraordinary food in the set. Love max max!

See the white thingy on top of the yee mee in the middle of the pot, that's the cooked pork belly that was covered by egg. Yum yum!!!

The so-called dessert, which is pretty ordinary and so-so

Halfway during our meals, the waiter came over with the bill and asked us to pay for it because the shop is going to close soon. It was totally awkward and uncomfortable during the incident and he told us to finish the food faster. There were other customers with us in the shop at the moment, but they left earlier than us after that.

Overall, the food was just all right but the credit exception goes to the combination of pork belly and egg. The green tea is a total failure, while the dessert doesn't give much impact in the meal except being one of the marketing attraction to make the set look more worthy. Service was pretty slow and bad. Will miss the pork belly, but I'm not sure to come back or not since it is near my cousin's house

Came from a hometown that is famous only for durian, so it is never say never to durian!

After having dinner in Taylor's Lakeside Campus that day with my cousin and friends, we decided to have dessert in Sweet Chat and went all the way to Mid Valley just for some durians dessert

But, not cheap lah

Durian pancake is a MUST, already in mind even before reaching the place

Orthopaedics posting

The time passed and the knowledge gained did not feel like 8 weeks at all

But the exhaustion felt more than that

8 weeks straight without any holidays in between except weekends

However, I'm glad that we are done with Orthopaedics posting and miss every specialists and doctors dearly

This is like the bible of the posting for all of the medical students

However, I did not read everything in there just because I'm lazy to do so

It was really a rush for us to gone through 8 sub-specialities in only 8 weeks, which clinically, theoretically and mentally not enough at all

Our experience in wearing Plaster of Paris cast, which is terribly heavy but it was one memorable moment

Clinique Star Tour 2011 @ Pavilion KL

This is my very first experience in a makeover and it is Clinique Star Tour 2011, yup they are back and here to make every girl looking good again

Venue of choice : Pavilion KL

Date: 23rd July 2011

The crowd at the Clinique makeover booth when I arrived at around 2pm. Got myself registered under blogger for free and was then 114th person for the day because the booth starts at 11am. The normal price for the make over is RM 35 per person. See, there are seats provided for some of the guys there when they are bored waiting for their other half

The registration booth is getting crowded after lunch hour and I'm lucky enough that I'm in this wave of time. The RM 35 not only for the makeover, there is a door gift worth RM130 of Clinique products. Besides, 3 lucky girls will get a chance to win this Star search and 1 will make it into the CLEO magazine cover

Finally after 1 hour of waiting down there, I get to set my butt on the waiting couch inside the booth. At least no more standing outside with the umbrella because it is drizzling outside

Firstly, they will analyse our skin type by asking us question regarding our skin and our major concern. I was then analysed as skin type 3, which is combination skin (Oily on the T-zone and cheek area only). Those with make up, they will remove it before cleaning their face. Since I came with naked face, she cleaned my face with Clinique's 3-Step Skin Care System.

Firstly she cleaned it with Oily Skin Formula facial liquid. Then my face was toned with Clarifying Lotion Twice a Day Exfoliator Type 3. Lastly the 3rd step, the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel

Next, hair styling station

My hair stylist is super young and friendly. She asked me what hairstyles I want and I told her to decide for me. Then, she explained to me that she will only make slight curl at the end of my hair and wavy curl isn't very suitable for me because my face look too young for those curl

*Awwww, she made me feel so happy that moment LOL*

This is the most relaxing station and the longest one - Make up!

Since I forget to put on my contact lens, I have no idea what did she put on my face, like seriously I can't even see a thing clearly. So, I just sit back and relax until she asked me what eye shadow color that I prefer. I asked her to recommend me the color that suits me and she eliminated some colors. Left behind green and brown palette to choose. I was thinking that green doesn't really suit my outfit for the day, which was a really big contrast. So, I picked brown. Some told me I should pick green for a daring try

Photographer for the day. Teaching me how to pose. Yeah, this is really weird and embarrassing for actually. I never do such photo shoot before and never ever post that way before. He kept push my fringe aside, I presume they cover part of my eyes. But at the same time, I didn't want to reveal too much of my wide forehead.

Memorable dinner for the night

We were served with 2 plates of appetizer and chilis for the additional taste for the dinner

Our very first dish for the dinner

Very subtle as the head of the dinner train, which is greatly appetizing

On the most right, the nest-like food was actually filled with cempedak

Herbal chicken soup with fish stomach, scallop and abalone mushroom

This soup taste really sweet from its ingredient, love this max!

With hint of vegetable (the one carved like a flower) and wolfberry

Roasted chicken and pork

The roasted chicken is quite juicy, while on the other hand, the roasted pork was a bit too hard for me

Fried fish and prawns with salad

Not too oily and it is pretty good to eat with the salad (in cubes)

One quite easy going fried food, to date

Fibers for all, vegetables

The taste is okay, however the presentation of this dish isn't very satisfying

The 6th dish, fried mee hoon

I was kinda full when this was served, I did tried a bit

The mee hoon was quite oily to my liking, overall it is just okay

Pau and a mantao-like kuih

Very small and sticky

Not very much of my favorite

The dinner ended with a bowl of tong shui which is pretty soothing to take away all the dinner taste in the mouth. Cold and sweet, wish I have more of this

10-course meal, including the appetizer and tea

Seriously very full!

After taking pictures, some chat and autographed with Moses, it was time to say good bye and leave this a memorable night

Was treated again for my birthday last month

This time, trying food at new place again

Very near my cousin's house, in Bukit Jalil

It looks dark from the outside and believe me, it is no any brighter inside as well

So, for a Dining Set Meal of RM 68, we only pay for RM 26 per meal

There are 3 choices of Set Meal. Here's the two:

Set A (mine):

Appetizer : Creamy Mushroom Soup

This is good, prefer the mushroom taste a little more thicker

Main Course: Grilled Chicken with Teriyaki Sauce

Well-recommended!

Awesome, the chicken is soft, very tender (not like some of the grilled chicken served that you need good skills to get it cut)

The sauce is the one that add in the awesomeness of this dish

Dessert: Tiramisu

2 thin slices of chocolate on top, giving the extra effect of presentation to this dish

Overall, this tiramisu is good but not the best I have tasted, to date

Set B

Appetizer: Caesar Salad

I never a fan of salad but this is not very hateful to me

Very subtle, an easy going food to start with

Appetizer: Seared Salmon Fillet with Lemon Cream Sauce

Super well recommended to all salmon lovers!

This salmon is well-cooked, just nice and fresh

What's a good food without the good sauce, the lemon cream sauce

Another dish with awesomeness

Go for this, this is unique and nice, which I seldom see served in other restaurant

Dessert: Peach Melba

One very classic dessert here, a combination of peach with vanilla ice-cream topped with a cherry

13th January is actually Peach Melba Day in US

(The original peach melba made was a combination of peach with raspberry sauce together with the ice-cream)

Drinks is the only thing not included in the set

So, we ordered our own - Cafe Latte

The third set meal of choice is:

Appetizer - California Salad

Main Course - Lamb Rack

Dessert: Homemade Cheese Cake

Normal price: RM 68 per set

I am glad that I had it for only RM 26 per set (All thanks to the deal voucher!)

*A much delayed post*

Many thanks to my friends for bringing me out for lunch one day after my birthday for a belated lunch treat. We went out of hospital after class and head to the new mall nearby, Viva Home due to short of lunch break

Our choice because none of us tried this cafe before this - LavazzA Cafe

Inside the shop that looks retro, yet a little confused for me

The seat isn't that comfortable

It is pretty quiet when we were there even though it is lunch time

A very royal section near the entrance with cakes display behind

I don't know why most of their stuff are have a lot of things and confusing

Menu!

We were more interested in this part of the menu

Anyway, RM 15.90 for a set lunch isn't very cheap

Ice Lemon Tea with the sugar

The lemon is not in slice, yet it is cut in a wedge shape which is harder to poke through for better lemon-ish taste

I don't remember the name of this dish, it is pasta with sardin or tuna

Which my friend didn't really enjoyed it

My lunch for the day - Creamy Ham Al-Funghi Pasta

I really like the smell when it was served, like mushroom soup

The portion is just nice with ham and mushroom thingy that they called as al-funghi

Overall, this pasta is okay for me

Cajun Chicken Baked Rice

Tried a small chunk of this and I found it rather salty

A very filling dish and the best part is the cajun chicken

But overall, it wasn't one very great dish

They have cakes, chocolates, candy and macarons as well

The macarons are RM 2.60 per piece and RM 15++ per box of 6

Other cake choices

Displays of very nicely decorated cake

It is just located opposite Old Town White Coffee, that explains the reflections on the display

Overall, none of us would actually recommend this outlet to anybody due to its food quality that did not worth the money
