Final Year: PPD Camp 3

Before things get serious in hospital, we were sent off to Kem Bina Negara Ulu Sepri, Rembau for our 3rd and last Personal & Professional Development (PPD) Camp for all the Final Year medical students

We had the first one during Year 1 in Ulu Kenas, Perak

We were here in Ulu Sepri on our 2nd camp during Year 3

So, here we are again

No yellow man and Maxis line available here, only lucky Celcom users have full bar!

It was a bit different this camp, the first 3 days were under Biro Tatanegara (BTN)
They gave us talk about our country and introducing us the Perlembagaan Persekutuan with all the Perkara-perkara stated inside

We had morning and evening exercise everyday, divided into groups for small group discussion all about 'kenegaraan' topic

My watch matches with my set of baju kurung
During BTN camp small group discussion, I looked at my watch most of the time, waiting for break

We had no internet connection, no TV here
But, we have 6 MEALS per DAY!

 Our exercise area
Surrounded by trees and trees and trees!
And a river, we even need to cross a bridge to get to the Dewan Makan :)

On the left of this road, stretches of girls' dorms were here!
The guys' dorms were the other side of the camp

We have 146 girls and 89 guys
Yeap, my batch has 235 people

Hopefully all 235 of us will pass as doctors 9 months from now :)

5A, this was where I slept for 5 nights :)

 Night view of my dorm

Best friends - Xu Vin & Suganthini
That's my bed
Blues - UKM's signature baju kurung colour :)

Went over to 5B for some chat and laughter with friends
Left to right:
Wei Yeng, Yun Ting, Siew Im, Kah Yan, Me :)

Group photo session
My friend sempat lagi take our picture when the people-in-charge busy arranging the others for the session

After 3 days of BTN (finally), the next 3 days were conducted by Faculty of Medicine, UKM
PPD camp 3!
We were still in our group, but this time we were facilitated by HUKM doctors and specialists
So coolio of them to come into the jungle to join us despite loads of work back in HUKM

Oh yea, I'm in Group 8
 Group 8!
My group members and facilitator (in green shirt), Dr. Esa (an anesthesiologist)
This was taken on our last night in the camp

This was taken on Day 4 of the camp
We were given some time to come up with cheers and group flag

Lucky me, my groups had a bunch of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) people
You should see how they were so particular about the flag!
No one can interrupt then or take over their jobs!

Great job!

Day 5 -  Medical Explorace

That explains why we need to come up with cheers and flag!
They even give each group a big piece of cloths for identity
We were free to create anything from it to wear on us during the explorace
My group weren't very OCD about this
So, we wore it like some pahlawan!
LOL XD
Crazy..

This group was the super creative one!
Look at them, so cool :)

There were 5 stations to run
We started from the furthest station, run run run
Lucky those jogging all these years help!

The first group who reach the finish line are not necessary the winner
It depends on our performances in each station conducted by our doctors

I've no idea what we were doing that time
I think I'm clapping, but the timing is just so nice that turn me into praying
Yun Ting has the same pose with me at the back XD

At our 5th station, waiting for our turn

Oh yeah, I forgot to intro my group's name
We called ourselves
"8vengers"

The number 8 in the flag was made of 12 orang lidi indicates the 12 of us
Triangle indicates people with triangle personality - with mission and vision (Taught by BTN)

Our camp commandent, Prof Dr Harlina were the one in the final checkpoint waiting for us
She made it like Amazing Race when she announced "You were the 3rd team to arrive"

Overall, we have 20 teams
The color of the identity cloths actually means something
Red, Blue, Yellow, Green
But I'm lazy to explain

A picture before closing ceremony with my pretty 8vengers member, Yun Ting

We were now separated into 5 groups with different posting, each posting 7 weeks
Professional exams will be next April

Time flies
We officially go back to the hospital to face the seriousness
No more ooh ahh-ing

4th Medical Undergraduates' Annual Scientific Research Meeting (MUASRM), UKM

On 27th June 2012, marks the finale of our Special Study Module (SSM) with the grand Medical Undergraduates' Annual Scientific Research Meeting (MUASRM)

Our very first event as the final year students

*clap clap*

It was started 4 years ago in UKM, where all the 4th year medical student were placed randomly in a group of 4 to 5 members to conduct a research from clinical-based, laboratory-based as well as community-based.

All 57 groups started their research since June 2011 from proposal submission, presentation to respective department, ethics approval, data collection and analysis, manuscript writing and final presentation.

To make things interesting, on the day of MUASRM, 21 groups compete in oral presentation while 36 groups go for poster presentation.

We had a very interesting opening ceremony that day, officiated by Dean of Faculty of Medicine, UKM, Prof. Dato' Dr Raymond Azman Ali, alongside with our module coordinator, Prof. Dr. Ruszymah and Dr. Shahnaz Murad, the Director of Institute for Medical Research.

By the way, I love the theme for this year MUASRM
"Medical Research: The Aperture to Infinite Possibilities"

1-day transformation of the medical students into men & women in black and white
Most of us had our blazer on, especially all the oral and poster presenter

Each group will have one presenter that spend their day feeling restless and crazy waiting for their turn to present and shaking endlessly during the presentation

Congratulations to all the groups for completing all their research and to all the presenters, well done!

This is my group's photo in the abstract book
My group members, from the left, Lina, Dayang, my supervisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Faridah, Mizan and ME ME ME!

My group, Group 41's research abstract
We picked clinical-based research and we were then put under Forensic Department

All the lack of sleep efforts paid off after the abstract is out and we've done with our manuscript

We overnight and sleep in National Institute Forensic, Hospital Kuala Lumpur just to wait for subjects for data collection. Usually we will be there by 10pm and went home around 6am. Some of the time we  will go back again around 12pm on the same day.

This was one of the experiences that I won't forget

The worst case scenario was having no subject at all for a few nights there
:(
:(
There was this one night where we watched Battleship repeatedly for 3 times with the staffs
Crazy!

Our goodie bag for the event
Our abstract book was designed by Kevin Tan
See the 2 yellow black tubes there on the left, they were from sponsor - Sloan's Analgesic Rub samples
Very interesting stuffs!

I was the first oral presenter in the afternoon after lunch
While everyone having lunch, I feel so restless that I can't even put anything in my mouth
8 minutes of presentation, 2 minutes Q & A session =.=
I end up feeling super hungry right after my presentation
But, I'm more relieved and happy than any other thing
This thing had finally comes to the end after 1 year of ups and downs, more downs

One of my favorite picture of the day
Oh yea, this is the stage where the oral presenter has to present in the auditorium

Dinesh, the guy sitting on my right in the picture, is the WINNER of the oral presentation!
I remember I clapped so hard when his group was announced as the winner, I've foreseen their group winning weeks ago.
I keep telling him how good the research was from his group, but he didn't want to trust me

It was such a crazy day for me before my presentation
It was awesome after my presentation because it is finally over

All the committees had done a great job for making the 4th MUASRM a success!

Coming up next, all of us are heading to camp this Sunday, will be back on Friday!

Standard Chartered KL 2012 & Friend's Proposal

NTV7 Feel Good Run was my last run before I'm back running again this year
That was like July last year, so basically I've been absent in all this running event for a year!

Even my cheapo sports shoes know that gap better than I do
One of the rubber near the heel of my left shoe came off right after I stepped out from the house!
Geez

Seriously, I don't like starting my run at 8.45am
The sun during the run day was just so jealous that all of us are being healthy
While standing with the crowd at the starting, the sun is already contributing UV to our skin

By the way, this is my 4th run!

Starting line for 5km and 10km runners

The large crowd of 10km runners
I'm glad that the crowd is getting larger with years
Proved that there are still a lot of people exercise

Qi Tyng, my victim
I make her run with me in every run that I want to join
XD

Best friend, Xiao Liey
This is her first run and she did it very well!
Girl, must join more run in the future :)

In the big crowd while I was somewhere around KM2, this girl was just right beside me
This is just so unexpected!
Both of us are from Segamat, went to the same matriculation college, get into UKM but different course
We haven't seen each other God knows how long

But, this is where I met her
FATE!!!
We were so excited and pace together until the finishing line

Somewhere in KM3 of the run, another rubber near the sole of the left shoe came off
It was quite uncomfortable
But I continue to run when I can

Unfortunately, I crossed the finishing line with the time 50 minutes
This was worse than my first run March last year in Bukit Jalil for Bareno Run
To comfort myself, this route is 5.4km, 400 metres longer

I'm so addicted to run now after completing this

Qi Tyng is so glad that she crossed the line without collapsing

After the run, I went to meet up my course mates because we are going to help one of our course mate proposing to his girlfriend

I was somewhere there holding the red heart card alongside with my friends
But none of the camera lens caught me
Maybe not photogenic enough, haha!

(Photos courtesy of Khai Pin)

There, he made it!
She said yes!

Oh yea, we are the "brothers" a.k.a heng dai because we are the guy's side in this proposal event

Congratulations to Fu Chong and Shiao Xian :)

The first Chinese guy in my batch that found a wife!

GeorgPeck, Sunway Pyramid

GeorgPeck
Okay, first thing, God knows who come up with the name GeorgPeck.
I think Qi Tyng has it enough from me that I've been complaining about the name
Oh well, guess it makes it different

It was located at Asian Avenue in Sunway Pyramid
We just had our manicure and pedicure done in De Lacq that day, so we stopped by to grab a drinks

However, they have pretty cool place to sit and chat accompanied by chandelier

On the left, that was my Fresh Tomatoes with Honey Ice Blended (RM 6.90)
This is the only drinks that is sort of different from the other bubble tea kiosk
I kind of LIKE it, actually

On the right, that was Tyng's GeorgPeck Milk Green Tea with grass jelly (RM 5.90)
For her, it was just so-so

In the end, I would only say all of this is just part of the bubble trend that was totally exaggerated.
More and more shops and kiosks with different company with the same list of menu.

London, The Summer Musical Gala Premiere

It was 7 years back when I went for my very first musical in Istana Budaya for The Sound of Music. I'm still keeping my ecstasy of attending a musical deep inside me, all accumulated and now I'm able go for another one after so long.

All thanks to Avante for giving me a pair of tickets for the Gala Premiere of London, The Summer Musical which was held in the Amphitheater, Sunway Lagoon. My partner of the day, no doubt, my cousin Qi Tyng. I couldn't think of another person that enjoy musical as much as I do!

London, The Summer Musical will be around daily from 1st June to 8th July 2012, except Tuesday at 8pm in Amphitheater, Sunway Lagoon!

Just right in front of the Sunway Hotel and the entrance towards Surf Beach of Sunway Lagoon

Synopsis:
Follow the inspiring story of 3 American air stewardesses who gave up their dreams of singing, only to rediscover it again across the Atlantic in London's West End and find love along the way in the all-new London, the Summer Musical by award winning West End productions!

There, the awesomely beautiful Sunway Hotel

Our tickets or they called this the Boarding Pass, which I think Malaysia Airlines is one of the sponsor of the musical.
The ticket is in such a good quality, love it max

At the back of the ticket

There is a train waiting for us once we had entered the Surf Beach entrance of Sunway Lagoon. This train is going to bring us all the way to the Amphitheater. Don't get fooled by the kiddy color of the train that look like a toy, it moves VERY FAST! It is so fast and fun that I wish the journey is longer :)
This picture took by Qi Tyng. Spot me in the train!

Being the first person on the train, it is so much easier for us to take picture!

My partner of the show and her pink koala!

At the entrance of the Amphitheater

Being the early birds inside the Amphitheater. Most of the invited bloggers and partners were seated at the Blue Zone on the right side, where this picture was taken. The other Blue Zone seats in the middle were filled with Media after that.

The Blue Zone tickets will be sold for RM83, where you can purchase it here in AirAsiaRedTix.com: http://redtix.airasia.com/events/LondonTheSummerMusical/

The ticket for the Red Zone on the left and right is RM103, while the Red Zone in the middle a.k.a the VIP zone is RM153

The stage from the view of the right Blue Zone seats. In my opinion, at this distance from the stage for about RM80 is already great for me. However, I'm lucky enough to be invited for the gala premiere.

I wouldn't say the stage is big. However, looking at the efforts of props made by the musical team, it made the show look big and mega enough :)

The show started with the song Flying The Flag by Scooch, which was the UK entry during the 2007 Eurovision. Great song to start in a musical, but it isn't the best choice of song for a talent competition.

While I'm still warming up myself with the musical, I miss out some of the songs. Fortunately after that, I started to get into mostly all of the songs in there. Some of the songs sang in the musical:

Last Friday Night - Katy Perry
The Lazy Song - Bruno Mars
Footloose
Let's Hear it from the Boys - Footloose
Hollywood - Michael Buble
Through the Eyes of Love (Ice Castle Theme) - Melissa Manchester
Uptown Girl
Color My World - Petula Clark
Can You Feel the Love Tonight - Elton John
It's My Party - Lesley Gore

Songs from Mammia Mia by ABBA:
Gimme Gimme Gimme!
Lay All Your Love on Me
Voulez Vous
Waterloo

Ain't No Mountain High Enough
It's Raining Men

Songs from James Bond:
From Russia with Love - Matt Monro
Thunderball - Tom Jones
Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey

My Heart will Go On - Celine Dion
Diamonds are Girl's Best Friend - Marilyn Monroe
Closer - Ne-Yo
One Thing - One Direction
I will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
Deep River Mountain High - Celine Dion

This is just some of the songs that sang during the musical, not ALL. But, nothing more hyped than going to the musical yourself and listening to them singing all of these!

One of the scene, where I think the height fright would not be able to act on. I didn't so see much safety measure being put on when they were acting up there, so near to the edge >.<

The 3 lead actors, cute boys with British accent. The one in the middle sang Can You Feel The Love Tonight beautifully
Awww...

There will a break in between the show for around 10 minutes, where we were entertained by the sponsors' clips on the screen

During the performance of Marilyn Monroe's Diamonds Are Girl's Best Friend

Near the end of the show, with gala outfits and great songs!

At the end of the day, my ticket turn out to spell "Ondon" >.<

The shows run for about 90 minutes, job well done. I totally love it when you know some of the songs, singing along with them. The mummy of 3 children beside me was so ecstatic that when we clapped our hands high up in the air, she almost hit me in every attempt during the song One Thing!

This musical is well recommended!

Love you, grandpa

I really do wish we don't need to have this trip back home. But it is a fact that I have to take it strong. I know someday this will happen, but not this soon, not so sudden.

Being home is great, especially when everyone is around. But not this time. However, I know he needs us and we need him around to for the very last time. But nothing can compare the love and respect we always have in our heart for him.

Rest in peace, grandpa

We love you

Niko Niko Onigiri

After dealing with challenge after challenge in my studies, finally I'm back to clear the thick dust and spider webs that were built up months ago. I was struggling to complete my 4th year, where I need to sit again for another paper in order to get into final year. Lucky me, a second chance was given to sit for the exam again. I'm very grateful that I passed the exam and I'm here officially starting my journey as a final year student. Phew~

***

This is mainly a post for Japanese food lover, especially if you love lots of rice in combination with seaweed - Onigiri

I myself, the first timer in this outlet as well - Niko Niko Onigiri located in Sri Petaling
Just somewhere right beside The Store Sri Petaling
This shop is still a newbie around the area with the size of half of the shop

Being away too long not blogging, I sense the loss of sentence building in this post. Forgive me for that.

Lots of onigiri to choose from with 4 different prices
They are really nice to explain to us what's inside and how they made them

The main focus here is the Onigiri set that I ordered
2 Onigiri + Miso soup + Salad + Side dish
RM 7.90 for the set, it is quite affordable for me

Miso soup and potato salad
My pictures were pretty bad here even though I had a few tries to have achieve a better one
It was still horrible, I mean the picture
However, the food is pretty descent to me

Fresh salmon onigiri
I guess all onigiri looks the same in every picture, except you take a bite and capture again
Well, I forgot about taking picture once I had a bite on the Onigiri
So huge that I need both hand to eat them, I can't reach for my phone at the moment to take picture
Tyng also busy om nom nom already.. Haha :)

Other than fresh salmon onigiri, I picked Potato Onigiri
The other fresh salmon onigiri in the previous picture was a victim of Qi Tyng's hungry tummy
Halfway om-noming the second Onigiri, I started to feel kind of full
It is either the Onigiri is really that big or I have to admit my tummy too small

Anyway, I fully recommend the onigiri here. Just so good that you would want to go again.

The super cute side dish for the day
6 small pieces of hot dog with cheese
I can't help, this dish is just too cute and funny for me
Nothing much special though for this one

The colorful chopsticks, some are longer than the other

Try the Japanese curry rice too, my uncle likes it :)
