Nike Run 2012: We Run KL

My 5th run ever since 2011

I guess I'm pretty lucky during the registration. I had multiple failed attempts as well while trying to break into the registration using my uni library's computer and siput internet connection.

Though I was able to register, at the same time, I'm quite disappointed with the service and management by Nike. Most of my friends couldn't join the run, which was pretty disappointing. Besides, I was charged twice due to some problems. However, I'm glad I got my refund even though their reply was really late.

To those that starts to boycott the run, I agree that the whole management thing sucks.

Well, since I had register, here's the post about Nike Run 2012: We Run KL
This is my first 10km run!

Getting ready for the race!

Super huge goodie bag
But all the stuffs in this bag tiny itsy bitsy one
It's just the bag that is super dinosaur!
Thanks to Kee Tat for collecting the race pack for me
Thanks to Ie Lane and Siew Im for transferring this dinosaur to my room door!

I was in Teluk Intan during the race pack collection and I reached KL one day before the run

 The goodies inside the dinosaur
For all this and the race t-shirt, it is RM35
I registered under buddy run, RM70 per pair with Ie Lane

One sentence that scare me when I first read it in the pamphlet:
"Race cut-off is 2 hours after flag off (5.30pm). Remaining runners on the route are required to board the sweeper bus due to the requirements by the authorities to expedite the road opening to traffic"

Since I got no training ever since Standard Chartered, it is 4 months if you're curious
So I was like
"Shit, it is so embarrassing if I was to pick up by the sweeper bus"

Then, I start over-thinking whether will I reach in 2 hours by walking
=.=

This is the D-Tag (Green tag)

I'm very jakun when I first saw this, never use before
This tag will records the time I cross the start line, the finish line and several split times in between
It is to record how lambat I was =.=

The yellow tag is to wear it on the wrist for finisher t-shirt exchange after we cross the finish line

A blur picture to show my D-Tag!

Went there with 4 of my coursemates
Left to right: Me, Ie Lane, Hau Wei, Tze Hwei & Kee Tat

All super hebat runners, I feel so tiny and rookie here

 The starting line
We went further to the front after I took this picture

All this while I only join 5km run or people used to call it as Fun Run
So I won't bother to go to the front since our time will be not be recorded

Yesterday was my first time to walk all the way to the front of the crowd with my friends, they are so semangat. Good good ;)

Since we gathered at the starting line 30 minutes before the gun, group photo!
Love this picture :)

JJ and Ean trying their best to kill our waiting time at the starting line to cheer everyone up

The gun went off at 5.35pm
This is the route to go through by legs, not wheels
Gosh!

I reached the finish line after 1 hour 33 minutes
Due to the super big crowd squeezed in a small area, the queue for mineral water, 100plus & finisher t-shirt was so long that it went all over to the finish line

The moment I was able to squeeze myself to step on the finish line to let my D-Tag time me, it was already 1 hour 35 minutes

meh =.=

Picture with our finisher t-shirt :)

I had difficulty looking for my friends after the finisher t-shirt collection

The fields are muddy that my shoes stucked so deep in
My shoes! My socks! Ugh...
With all the people wearing the same shirt and all thanks to my poor night vision, it took me really long to find them

The line there was really terrible, I couldn't call anybody
Luckily, text was able to be delivered

Finisher t-shirt

Tyng laughed at this because it is GREEN
Because I'm a so-called "colourist", I don't like green
But this green is okay, not dark green please...

Phew, finally I made it through my first 10km run under 2 hours with no training at all for 4 months

My feeling post-run:

10km is sooooo different from 5km, way different!

I had abdominal pain after I pass the 2km mark, I walked for a certain distance before I start to jog slowly again

I can feel my leg muscle screaming in pain at 9km, luckily only 1 km left. It is so weird that it was less pain when I jog compared to walking

I aim for a 10 minutes per km pace to make sure I reach before the sweeper bus come take me away, so that I can reach in 100 minutes (1 hour 40 minutes)

I did really push myself in certain part of the route even though there are quite a number of uphill routes, thank God I reached safely with a time that I'm satisfied :)

Problems:

All 4 water stations (every 2 km) and the route around that area totally flooded by paper cups and the road is so wet

A lot of runners tend to just throw the cup in every direction, I can feel water and 100plus splash every time I passed the water station

There are people complaining that couples that hold hands and took pictures along the race slow down the other runners

There are quite a number of people that stop unexpectedly in the middle of the road to tie their shoelace. I almost bump into one that I have to pull my emergency break. I hope they understand the etiquette of the a race

The queue delay my finishing time!

Mission to upgrade from 5km to 10km in within 1 year accomplished :)

Standard Chartered KL 2012 & Friend's Proposal

NTV7 Feel Good Run was my last run before I'm back running again this year
That was like July last year, so basically I've been absent in all this running event for a year!

Even my cheapo sports shoes know that gap better than I do
One of the rubber near the heel of my left shoe came off right after I stepped out from the house!
Geez

Seriously, I don't like starting my run at 8.45am
The sun during the run day was just so jealous that all of us are being healthy
While standing with the crowd at the starting, the sun is already contributing UV to our skin

By the way, this is my 4th run!

Starting line for 5km and 10km runners

The large crowd of 10km runners
I'm glad that the crowd is getting larger with years
Proved that there are still a lot of people exercise

Qi Tyng, my victim
I make her run with me in every run that I want to join
XD

Best friend, Xiao Liey
This is her first run and she did it very well!
Girl, must join more run in the future :)

In the big crowd while I was somewhere around KM2, this girl was just right beside me
This is just so unexpected!
Both of us are from Segamat, went to the same matriculation college, get into UKM but different course
We haven't seen each other God knows how long

But, this is where I met her
FATE!!!
We were so excited and pace together until the finishing line

Somewhere in KM3 of the run, another rubber near the sole of the left shoe came off
It was quite uncomfortable
But I continue to run when I can

Unfortunately, I crossed the finishing line with the time 50 minutes
This was worse than my first run March last year in Bukit Jalil for Bareno Run
To comfort myself, this route is 5.4km, 400 metres longer

I'm so addicted to run now after completing this

Qi Tyng is so glad that she crossed the line without collapsing

After the run, I went to meet up my course mates because we are going to help one of our course mate proposing to his girlfriend

I was somewhere there holding the red heart card alongside with my friends
But none of the camera lens caught me
Maybe not photogenic enough, haha!

(Photos courtesy of Khai Pin)

There, he made it!
She said yes!

Oh yea, we are the "brothers" a.k.a heng dai because we are the guy's side in this proposal event

Congratulations to Fu Chong and Shiao Xian :)

The first Chinese guy in my batch that found a wife!

Standard Chartered KL 2011

Event: Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2011
Date: 26th June 2011

Pre-run Days

It's all started with a parcel, 2 weeks before the run today. The parcel looks big but it is light

Inside the parcel

Standard Chartered KL Marathon bag

A very detailed, nicely done runner's guide book

Inside the book

The General Facts of the marathon

Pre-run checklist

The prizes are in US Dollar!

The event is partnered with a few charities, such as The Trustees of The Standard Chartered Trust Fund Registered, National Cancer Society Malaysia, Yayasan Anak Warisan Alam, MAB, Yayasan AIDS Malaysia, The National Autism Society of Malaysia

This is what most people pissed off for the day - Road Closure in KL
It is closed from 5am to 12pm

The 10km and 5km route
Just realized it is not just 5km, it is 5.4km

Route of full marathon (42.195km), I salute runners in this category

Half marathon (21.178km) route

I don't like the color of the shirt
It is the green of Green Lantern

My bib number
Was wondering who is the one that has T-37333 number

At the back of the bib number, very considerate

Run Day in Dataran Merdeka

7am in Dataran Merdeka
Full Marathon had flagged off at 5am and half marathon runners started at 7am

NewBalance, the sponsor of our Green shirt

My cousin, Qi Tyng

Yours truly
Had a knee pain one day before the run day from a short practice, had to run with a knee guard for better support

Something to entertain the kids

The starting and finishing line with rows of cheerleaders and media
The deejay was quite good, the first full marathon runner crossed the line even before my event was flagged off

After crossing the line and queuing in the packed crowd collecting goodie bags, the crowd in green reminds me of the assembly of Green Lantern

The sun is shining and getting warm already
Picture taken when I'm on my way to look for Masjid Jamek LRT station, some of the runners still running towards the finishing line

Me with the goodie back happily posing on the empty road that is closed just for the run
Walking in the middle of the empty road is fun!

Tired looking cousin with her goodie bag

Inside the goodie bag

Certificate of completion of the race

A free mineral water, 100 Plus (the official isotonic drinks sponsor) and a big yellow banana

Saw a lot of ambulances in standby mode and 1 came into the runners' track asking them to give way after I finished my race. Hope nobody has a major problem this year

No medal was given to 5km Fun Run category. Oh ya, I met Viji and Anrie in the National Cancer Society booth set up in the field

Now I have muscles pain!

Next Run: NTV7 Feel Good Run (3rd July 2011)

Bareno Run 2011

I'm not someone with good stamina
I never join long distance run before in school
I never be serious in cross country last time

After days of considering to join or not since November
After months of jogging either serious training or not
Last training was one week ago
Only clocked myself twice for 5km
No experience on what should I do before and during the race

Had been asking myself
Should I bring a bottle to run?
Should I bring towel?
Buy new sports shoes?
What pants should I wear?
What should I eat one day before?
What should I have for breakfast?

This is my first time running long distance early in the morning
Very nervous and having uncertainty about my stamina the night before the run
Finally, the day has come!

Bareno Run 2011
The first ever run that I dare myself to join even without proper training

Went to Stadium Bukit Jalil with Qi Tyng to collect our vest and bib number one day before the run

Qi Tyng and my bib number!
She called it the human paper plate number
It was funny when they gave us a free piece of Salonpas after we confirmed our registration
We joked that we need that Salonpas when we had cramp during the run
LOL!

Run day!

Woke up at 5am to prepare ourselves and had breakfast
We were so jakun when we reached there and not sure what should we do
We just follow those people that wore the blue bib number starting with 'K' (female 5km category)

Initially we heard the announcement for the 10km participants to get ready at the starting line
Qi Tyng and I still taking our own sweet time
After awhile, we see the 5km participants started to run
We were like, "Are you sure we are in the right group?"
No more announcement and people start running, then only we followed
So blur!

We started at 6.40am

Along the way we had to gone through 1 checkpoint and 1 water station
Speaking about the water station, those people just simply threw the plastic cup everywhere along the road
Even after 100 metres, there were still trail of plastic cups!
Some where in the middle of the track that I had to jump over while running

I reached the finishing line at 7.25am, taking 45 minutes to finish 5km
So far, this was my best time!
Surprisingly I crossed the line as the 155th person for my category and they gave me a finisher medal
If I'm not mistaken, the finisher medal is available for top 200 for my category
All of us get the certificate!

The atmosphere was very good and lots of people
The finishing line beside the lake was just so cool
I gone through the list of participants, around 4000 ++, near 5000 participants for 3 categories
5km, 10km and 21km
The guys wore neon green vest and the red vest for the girls

Thanks God for the superb weather, it was cooling!
After the race, there were free mineral water by Spritzer and 100 Plus with Gardenia Red Bean bun
Besides, they were food and drinks booth providing watermelon and taufu fa
I saw a cendol van somewhere at the side too

Met my course mates that join the run too!
The big picture (from left): Kak Aishah & Izat (10km), Kee Tat (21km), yours truly and Izat's sister, Wafa (5km)
All of us got the finisher medals

I called this satisfaction!
I'm happy but still need to train more
