Last day in NCSM

Whoosh! 2 weeks of elective in National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) had passed

12th May marked the last day of work for the 3 of us here in NCSM

After days of doing telemarketing, team and volunteer recruitment, visit to the Women's Cancer Detection Center, Nuclear Medicine and Cancer Treatment Center in Tung Shin Hospital

Before leaving, we had an opportunity to learn mammogram imaging interpretation from Dr. Sulaiman and how to break the bad news from Dr. Dalilah

Love the cozy environment in the office of Resource & Wellness Center

Love the music they play continuously in the room

Love the chocolate chips smell in the meeting room

All colleagues were so friendly and warm

We were treated so many times

For our last day, they came up with calling McDonald's delivery for everyone

They treated us AGAIN!

Then the idea of ordering the LARGE set that comes with FREE Coca-Cola "Can" glass popped out

Pink Party @ Zouk

Finally, Power Over Cervical Cancer (POCC) has comes to its target and now is calling everyone to celebrate this great achievement together with them after sweats and bloods of effort in making this to where it is now.

POCC is an event organized by National Cancer Society of Malaysia (where I work now!) supported by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical (GSK) to educate Malaysian women about cervical cancer and its prevention options.

Here we are now, happily inviting everyone to join us celebrating this great success in Zouk this coming Saturday, from 8pm to 10pm!

As the blogger ambassador for this campaign, I'm here to promote and do whatever I can to make this event a success either in sending the message to the public, raise the awareness or to remind myself how important this campaign is to learn more for my career.

Unfortunately, I couldn't attend the celebration party that night due to some reasons which I didn't get a chance to enjoy it alongside with the fellow ambassadors. National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) has come with this event successfully, always holding on with 3 objectives : To Support, Educate, Care. Much salute to them.

Coincidentally, I'm working with them for my elective for 2 weeks where I am still working there now. Well, I guess they didn't know I am their blogger ambassador.

All right, back to this party in Zouk!

Relay For Life

What is Relay For Life?

The National Cancer Society of Malaysia's Relay For Life (RFL) is a high-spirited event where everyone in the community can join in the fight against cancer. It is a day filled with fun, comradeship and festivities. It is time when you know people you know and people you don't know team up to raise public awareness about cancer in the community and to raise funds to find the cure.

It's 16 Hours You'll Never Forget!

RFL is an overnight event from 6pm to 10am. 

Individuals, survivors and people from all walks of life will come together to take turns to walk the track continuously. 

You can join as individual or a team of 10, for that 16 hours, there must be at least 1 person from every team to be walking/jogging around the track!

Objectives of RFL

Celebrate

Celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight

Remember

Remember loved ones lost to the disease. At RFL, people who have walked alongside those battling cancer can grieve and find healing

Fight Back!

Fight back. We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to the disease. Make a commitment to save lives by taking up the fight

Building a Team and More

To participate in RFL, you recruit friends, family, coworker and neighbours to join you in a Relay team. In the weeks leading up to the event, each team members raised money by collecting pledges. On Relay Day, team members take turn walking around the track to ensure that someone is on the track at all times. We don't sleep that night because cancer never sleeps

In addition to the team members who are walking the track, hundreds of other participants camp out, and together, create a community party atmosphere.

Celebration and Inspiration

Each RFL starts with the Survivors' Lap, a testimony to the fact that so many people today surviving cancer. Cancer survivors from the community walk the first lap around the track to celebrate their victories while everyone else cheers them on

Luminaria Ceremony

The Most Inspirational Time of Relay is the Luminaria Ceremony which happens at dusk when we honour cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battle with the disease. A luminaria is a small bag filled with sand holding a small candle. Each luminaria bears the name of a person who has battled cancer. All luminaria is placed side-by-side in-field around the track

It is RM 15 for each person and RM 150 per team!

TLC Promise Me

I believe most of the readers in my blog are young people, the Gen Y.

Not to forget, my friends, most of them are medical students should understand the feelings of disabled and unfortunate people out there in this world. How much suffers they gone through not only physically but in social aspect as well.

So, I guess the target of this post is to everyone especially all of us the lucky and fit youngster to try to put up an effort if possible to give a helping hand, to fulfill one very little wish that means everything.

TLC Promise Me is The Truly Loving Company (TLC) vision of social engagement for charitable causes. It is about channeling the collective energy of the community in helping the less fortunate, disabled and underprivileged in our society.  

Examples :
