Elective Day 1

"Hello, good morning/afternoon. I'm calling from National Cancer Society Malaysia"
I feel like a voice recorder right now
Hope I didn't dream repeating the same sentence

A gloomy pouring morning marks the first day my elective posting in National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) with Shalisha & Suganthini. Reached the place near 10am and was bring around the places with briefings. Then, we were assigned to help the admin to make phone calls regarding to the fund-raising event "The Moon Speaks for My Heart", a concert that pay tribute to the legendary singer Teresa Teng for her 16th death anniversary.

Made the most phone calls today with super thick face
Come on, medical students doing admin works and phone calls, there isn't much chances

NCSM is located at Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz
We seriously miss these place, our campus during pre-clinical year is just around the corner

The National Cancer Society of Malaysia is a non-government, non profit organisation dependent on the generosity of the community to continue to assist individuals dealing with the trauma of a cancer diagnosis

This is what they offer in NCSM
Screening offered here in NCSM is much cheaper compared to the hospitals and clinics available around the area
A package of mammogram and pap smear will cost RM 150
That will be under the Women's Cancer Detection & Breast Clinic, which helps to detect early cancer of the world 2 leading cancer which is breast and cervical cancer. The screening here were able to provide the public a cheaper cost due to the fund raised from events

Nuclear Medicine Centre is only available for patients referred from the hospital to screen for cancer that had spread to the bone, kidney and the other organs which marks the aggressiveness of the cancer. There are gamma camera and bone density machine available in this centre, which also provide a cheaper price compared to the hospitals out there

We were placed in Resource & Wellness Centre for our elective today
So, we are now kind of working as an intern here for the next 2 weeks
Gee.. I feel like working in an office now
The nicely arranged pictures at the side there were photos of cancer survivors

Supporting the fighting of cancer!

This is the place to be cosy
The centre plays a role in educating people about cancer to heighten the awareness among the public, so this area is meant to be cosy and comfortable for the knowledge giver and taker

Merchandise section
These items are on sale to raise fund for the centre to provide better treatment and management for the patients here

A place to have small discussion and to do some readings of the material available in the centre

Materials of reading, all regarding of cancer

This is what we had been doing the whole day
Went for lunch and came back to continue the work again
So, what's make us so busy doing phone calls?
